Stops

Seemingly peripheral topics can say more about a time and society than one might think. A good example is the phenomenon of cottage industry or gardening and their specific aesthetics of folk creativity. This book wants to introduce something similar, a topic that has not been reflected on enough so far – bus stops in Bohemia and Moravia.

It focuses on their most diverse and visible parts, which are shelters, booths, houses and so on. We can find them in every corner of our country, in towns, villages, on main and secondary roads. Thanks to the long tradition of bus transport and the high density of the road network, bus stops are a widespread phenomenon throughout the territory. Their large number is matched by a multitude of different forms, sizes, colours and materials. All this, combined with their different ages, creates a very varied mosaic throughout the territory.

Jan Vrabec and his son Matěj started photographing bus stops on their travels together. Matej with a small camera, dad with better equipment. The result is a book full of boxes, shelters and houses of various sizes, colours and materials.
