Studio 5 Ensemble: Modern Jazz - CD

The album Modern Jazz summarizes all the preserved recordings of Studio 5 - an ensemble that was of direct founding importance for modern Czech jazz. Vibraphonist and tenor saxophonist Karel Velebný, flutist and baritone saxophonist Jan Konopásek, guitarist Vladimír Tomek, bassist Luděk Hulan and drummer Ivan Dominák were based on the stimuli of cool jazz and west coast jazz, inspired by the Modern Jazz Quartet and Gerry Mulligan, but at the same time they were able to come up with a distinctive sound and original work. Compositions such as Rococo Doll and Nice Society are among the best in Czech music at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s.
