The renowned provocateur Michel Houellebecq has written a novel about France becoming an Islamic state. The story is set in 2022, when, in an election, political parties would rather support a fictional candidate from a party called the Muslim Brotherhood than see the leader of the far-right National Front, Marine Le Pen, become president. The author has stated that he is “accelerating history”. His controversial fictional novel has attracted unprecedented attention, and the book has become an absolute bestseller in many countries.
