Talks with TGM - DVD
On that autumn day in 1928, two symbols of Czechoslovak democracy are at their peak, just like the whole of Czechoslovakia. The book, which has been a year in the making and is intended to introduce the nation to its president, is finished. Karel Čapek seeks out Masaryk in the garden of the Topoľčianky chateau. He wants to offer him part of the fee for the book of their conversations, created for the 10th anniversary of the young Czechoslovak Republic. However, the President is not in a good mood, as his daughter has forbidden him from publishing the book. This meeting will not be an easy one.
Although Čapek is in a hurry, he cannot let the situation go unresolved and gets drawn into a heated debate. A debate about daughters, the world, politics and politicians, Czechs, love, and women. Masaryk shows that he is not just the founding father and a cold icon from textbooks, but a man of flesh and blood. Alongside his history-shaping ideas and worldviews, he also reveals a capacity for high politics and even intrigue. He speaks, among other things, about his love affair and rediscovered sexuality. The clash between two giants from different generations has explosive potential, even though their only weapons are walking sticks and words.
