The argument structure of nouns in Catalan
This monograph is dedicated to the analysis of the argument structure of nouns in Catalan, from both a theoretical and a descriptive perspective. Its purpose is to determine and systematically classify the properties of the argument structure of nouns in Catalan, offer an overview of their syntactic properties, and explain the regularity patterns deduced from the material studied. The primary question, “How are the arguments of nouns syntactically expressed in Catalan?” is also linked to three secondary questions: “Which nouns in Catalan accept arguments?”, “What form do nominal arguments take in Catalan? What does it depend on?”, and finally, “What is the ordering of noun argument complements in cases where there are several within a single syntagma?”. The author uses data on more than 200 nouns from the Computerised Text Corpus of the Catalan Language (CTILC).
