The Dispossessed Voice

The authors of this book map the changes in the gender culture of Czech society from 1948 to 1989. They point out that both emancipatory and traditionalist tendencies were always present in this process. They also pay attention to how a whole range of actors – organisations, expert communities, and individuals – acted in such a way that they co-created the gender culture of state socialism throughout its existence, even though communist ideologues had expropriated the agenda of the pre-war Czech women's movement.
