The fourth victim

Somewhere in the middle of the city, a killer sits quietly plotting his next plan. Kaalbringen, a quiet resort town, is gripped by terror - three brutal murders in quick succession.

When and where can the "axe murderer", as he has come to be called, strike again? Is he just gonna walk away, or does he have another victim in mind? Commissioner Van Veeteren must find connections in a series of murders that others miss. His greatest adversary is time, for the fourth victim is already in the killer's sinister grasp.

The fourth victim is a masterpiece. Police working practices are detailed here as imaginative methods by which crimes and their real or apparent perpetrators can be investigated with unusual depth and complete veracity.
