The Grateful Dead: Workingman's Dead

LP Record On 14 June 1970, Grateful Dead released the album "Workingman's Dead", which was a complete departure from anything the band had released before. Psychedelic improvisation and folk-rock influences gave the album a new sound. WORKINGMAN'S DEAD was recorded at Pacific High Recording Studio in San Francisco and produced by Betty Cantor, Bob Matthews and the band themselves in just nine days. Blair Jackson's book Garcia: An American Life notes that Garcia suggested to his bandmates: "Let's do this whole thing in three weeks and get it over with as quickly as possible." Since the aforementioned Mr Hunter had been on the road with the band during their last tour, the Dead had plenty of material to work with.
