Professor Alois Kohout is a strict despot. He demands obedience not only from his students but also from his family. His children and his wife respect him very much, but at the same time they are afraid of him. Son Jaroslav hides his disciplinary problems and daughter Zdenka hides her friend dr. Jiří Bečvář. Jiří decides to ask for her hand in marriage, but when he witnesses the almost military-like arrival of the whole family, he decides to change tactics. He poses as a writer who wants to write a book about the professor. She holds him up as a role model and advises him to fake his departure. Hidden in the apartment, he will then be able to see into the hearts of his loved ones.
