The Pit and the Pendulum
Two longer short stories by E. A. Poe take place in a world of fear and the supernatural, where the reader encounters personified terror and the proximity of death. In this case, too, it is evident that the author is a master of short literary genres and is able to evoke feelings that come from deeply hidden parts of our own selves. The short stories were first published in Slovak in the first half of the 20th century, and only minimal grammatical adjustments have been made to them.
