The Sun Also Rises (Fiesta)

The author's debut novel (1926), also published under the title Fiesta, is considered one of his most important works. It begins as an endless crawl through Parisian bars, a party that starts in the morning and never ends... However, this isn't an expression of a carefree life, but rather a plaster for a terrifying past. Hemingway's "lost heroes" experience things that are perhaps worse than in the trenches. Their lives are marked by disillusionment, sadness, and depression. Not even all the bars from Paris to Madrid can soothe the sting of loss and constant restlessness. This book is published in a new 2015 translation by Martin Pokorný.
