The unstoppable wave

We are approaching a critical point in the history of our species. Everything is about to change. Soon, you will live surrounded by artificial intelligence. It will organise your life, run your business, and operate essential government services. You will live in a world of DNA printers and quantum computers, modified pathogens and autonomous weapons, robotic assistants and an abundance of energy. None of us are ready for this. As the co-founder of the pioneering AI company DeepMind, part of Google, Mustafa Suleyman is at the centre of this revolution. He believes the coming decade will be defined by this wave of powerful, rapidly advancing new technologies. In The Coming Wave, Suleyman shows how these forces will create enormous prosperity but also threaten the nation-state, the foundation of the global order. As our fragile governments are pushed towards catastrophe, we face an existential dilemma: on one hand, unprecedented harm; on the other, the threat of overbearing surveillance. Can we navigate a path between catastrophe and dystopia? This ground-breaking book from a renowned artificial intelligence expert defines “the containment problem” – the task of maintaining control over powerful technologies – as the fundamental challenge of our time. So let's get ready for the biggest revolution of the 21st century!
