The Velvet Years

One family, a thousand disasters – and a revolution to boot

The pedantic Grandpa Miloš and the quirky Grandma Andula are in a perpetual battle with Grandpa Tomáš, whose only purpose in life is sport, and Grandma Hana, who is mainly interested in herself. In the midst of all this, two young people are trying to find their way to each other, two people who were never meant to be together and who are unsuccessfully trying to raise their unplanned son, Petr. One family catastrophe follows another, and in the background, the Velvet Revolution is unfolding, turning the lives of each family member upside down. Immerse yourself in a story that will make you laugh, occasionally shake your head in disbelief, or even shed a tear…
Štěpán Javůrek, author of the popular trilogy Sudeten House, presents a bittersweet comedy, a book full of gentle humour and the extraordinary experiences of one uncommonly common family.
