The World According to Daliborek - DVD

The White World According to Daliborek is a film portrait of an authentic Czech man from Prostějov, whom director Vít Klusák's crew followed for two years (2015–2016). Dalibor K. (37) works as a painter, makes amateur horror films, composes angry songs, paints, and is a neo-Nazi. He is approaching forty but still lives with his mother, Věra (63). He hates his job, gypsies, Jews, refugees, homosexuals, Merkel, spiders, and dentists. Even before the current wave of YouTubers, his home video with a telescopic baton became a hit on the Czech internet.

Filming for the documentary about the life of an ordinary neo-Nazi with artistic ambitions began when Dalibor's mother met a Slovak man, Vladimír (47), on Facebook, who likes to say he would "turn gypsies into asphalt". After a while, Vladimír started living with the family, and his mother's new relationship sparked Dalibor's determination to finally find a serious relationship himself. The film about a lonely man who has dedicated his life to hatred, lies, PlayStation and Facebook was thus given real-life momentum. This bitingly absurd yet chillingly bleak tragicomedy explores the radical worldview of "ordinary decent people". And just when it seems it cannot get any more searing, it culminates in a completely uncompromising way.

The White World According to Daliborek is a cinematic visit to fellow citizens who miss Adolf Hitler. "He's a good boy, he just has stupid opinions," his mother says about Dalibor at one point. However, Dalibor's opinions are ones we hear more and more often these days. "Our film is not just a portrait of one 'Nazi-maniac'; the film shows that his colleagues, classmates, friends, and closest relatives agree with his hateful attitudes. Our immodest ambition is to look into the heads and hearts of thousands of people who have subordinated their worldview to a hateful fear of otherness, through Dalibor. To show the breeding ground from which the modern wave of racism and intolerance is born," says Vít Klusák about his film.

"I discovered Dalibor on YouTube: A bald-headed man was brandishing a telescopic baton in a video; he seemed disturbing, touching, and comical all at once. For a moment, I was convinced he was an actor. But it turned out he wasn't," says Klusák about the very beginning and the idea for the film.

The neo-Nazi Dalibor and the other characters in the film are completely authentic. They are in their natural environment and act and speak entirely for themselves. In this sense, it is a documentary film. The cinematography and direction are based on the methods of a feature film, which allows The White World According to Daliborek to significantly surpass the aesthetic of documentary reports.
