There are lights we cannot see

Marie-Laure lives a happy childhood in Paris with her loving father. However, life presents her with her first difficult test when she goes blind at an early age. At that time, he has no idea that he has other, much more difficult tests ahead of him. As the Germans occupy Paris, Marie and her father are forced to flee, leaving their current security behind for the vague prospect of a safe haven. But is it possible to find such a place in a turbulent Europe? Especially when Mary's father carries a dangerous secret with him?
In a German mining colony, orphan Werner grows up longing for a different fate than the one he was destined for. He wants to get to the bottom of all the mysteries that surround him, he is fascinated by science and technology. His natural talent and the ease with which he is able to fix any radio do not go unnoticed. He secures a place at an elite military academy for the Hitler Youth - he becomes a specialist in detecting resistance activities. Werner, increasingly aware of the inhuman consequences of his intelligence, eventually finds his way to Saint-Malo in search of the resistance fighters.
The moment of fateful meeting is approaching.

Entertainment Weekly

„A novel carefully constructed like the wooden houses that Daniel made for Marie-Laure so that she could navigate the streets, composed of short chapters jumping in time and plot, full of imagination interweaving fable with depictions of technical inventions and the wondrous phenomena of nature: "Open your eyes and look through them before they close forever. “

MF Dnes rating: 90 %

„David Matásek gives a thoroughly professional and convincing performance in this audiobook, in which he puts exactly as much emotion and intonation as the situation demands. This sensitive reading is undoubtedly fully deserving of Doerr's story and adds another dimension to it. “
