This pseudonym belongs to the popular Nora Roberts, who was born in 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland. After finishing secondary school, she married Roland and had two children with him. She began writing in 1979 when she was snowed in at home. A year later, Silhouette Publishing accepted her novel Irish Thoroughbred. She is now undoubtedly one of the most popular and widely read American authors of romance and detective fiction. Her captivating, thrilling stories are translated into many languages and are known to readers in various countries around the world. She has written more than 182 books, which are also published in Czech, such as Vražedná nevinnost, Božské zlo, or Přijď a už zůstaň. Many of them have also made the New York Times bestseller list. In a typical year, Nora brings about five new stories to the world, and 27 copies of her books are sold every minute. She also became the “spiritual mother” of Lieutenant Eve Dallas, the main character of the popular “In Death…” series of detective novels set in the future, which she writes under the name J. D. Robb. She lives with her second husband, Bruce Wilder, in Maryland, where they both have their own businesses. “You know, writing is creative and all, but you can’t always have your head in the clouds.” Nora is no shrinking violet; she has a foul mouth, a smoker’s voice, and a wardrobe full of Armani. Shopping is her main pleasure. She also says that “a day without chips is like a day without an orgasm.” Nora Roberts is the first author to have the honour of being inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame.
