Top Gun
1986
Young military pilots Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and his colleague Goose are sent to Miramar, California, for a five-week course at a school for elite military pilots called Top Gun. Maverick is proud of this and intends to become the best fighter pilot in the Navy. However, his gambling is not admired, on the contrary, it causes trouble among his colleagues and superiors because Maverick breaks the rules and official regulations. His instincts are more important to him. But when his friend Goose loses his life on a test flight, Maverick begins to change.

Top Gun: Maverick
2022
Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Tom Cruise) loves piloting fighter jets to death. So much so, in fact, that he has successfully resisted promotion in the US Air Force for over thirty years because it would have driven him out of the cockpit and into a heated office.
Plus, Maverick has always been a magnet for trouble, which is also quite inconsistent with a military career. But the pilot is bravura, perhaps the very best, and so he is offered the chance to become an instructor for the elite fighters of the Top Gun program, whom he is to prepare for a mission that falls into the Mission Impossible category.
