Traband: Carousel

A reissue of a long sold out album released in 2000, featuring many songs that belong to the Best of Traband category. This original band draws inspiration from cowboy and sailor songs, chanson, Argentine tango, Czech brass band and rock 'n' roll. The sound of the album is predetermined by the instrumentation of the band (clarinet, accordion, trumpet, xylophone, Banjo, tube, drums), the character of the songs through the musical and lyrical inventiveness of especially Jarda Svoboda. If Jiří Černý says in the album review that the band's music is " a mixture of peripheral romp, cowboy song and pre-war cabaret" add a circus band accompanying the action in the manege and you have a clear idea of Traband. The texts tell the story of people on the margins of society, of survivors at sea and on land, of hopes dashed but also still lingering. The theme is loneliness (Bárbí and Málborou Men, On the high seas), Unfulfilled Love (Submerged River, Carousel), but also human anger and cruelty (Jaromil drank a lot, Lucie, A story from the underworld). Many of the songs evoke other ideas in the listener, whether in melody, tempo or lyrics.
