Turquoise Mountain
Cho Oyu is the sixth-highest mountain in the world and its name translates to Turquoise Goddess. Four years after its first ascent, the first all-female expedition attempted to conquer it. It ended in tragedy. “It was with a feeling of sadness that I realised I belonged to the weaker half of humanity. But nothing diminished my desire to climb a high mountain.” Dina Štěrbová became the first woman in the world to ascend the mountain in 1984. The most famous Czechoslovak mountaineer now tells of the pitfalls that could not be spoken of in the past and relates the fates of those who once accompanied her on the path to her dream.
