Under the weight of snow

NORDIC CRIME

FROM THE TRUE NORTH…

Long-time chief ranger Dan O’Brien has one flaw: he does his job a little too well. Now, however, his fierce dedication to protecting the fauna and flora in the vast area around the Kanuyaq River might cost him his job. Politicians, hand-in-hand with businessmen, are very keen to start drilling for oil in the territory under his care.

All the locals from the reservation who care about him and the Alaskan environment rally to Dan’s cause—led by private investigator Kate Shugak. But their efforts are shaken by a brutal attack that claims the life of one of the community's long-standing members.

The murder raises a series of questions that fall one after another like snowflakes from a winter sky, the most important of which is: Why? Was Dinah Willner’s death really just the mad act of a mentally broken man, or was this “eco-terrorist,” as some called her, standing in the way of someone else's plans?
