Vepřek Karel: Box1 (4x CD) - CD

A retrospective of the songwriter Karel Vepřek's work on 8 CDs. The complete set is divided into two separate boxes of four discs each, containing archival recordings from 1986 to 2010. They present Karel Vepřek as a solo singer-songwriter with a guitar or accordion, in various ad-hoc line-ups, and with the bands Chudák paní Popelková and Lyrika Putyka. This is mostly material previously unavailable on official releases. Here you will find concert recordings, home demos, and also later recordings made at Czech Radio. All of this is compiled into a logical, coherent dramaturgy for each album. The sound has been carefully mastered, but the quality of the recordings reflects the circumstances of their creation. The primary intention was to capture the authentic atmosphere of Vepřek's songs and also to make available those tracks that have remained hidden even from the songwriter's most loyal fans.

4CD BOX 1 contains the albums:

CD1 Dialog s popelnicí (archive home solo recordings from 1987-1990)

CD2 Kutáleči penízků (archive home solo recordings from 1987-1990)

CD3 Písně ze dna křídového moře (archive home recordings with Jiří Kovář from 1991 and 1986)

CD4 Chechtáky (underground concerts by the bands Chudák paní Popelková and Lyrika Putyka from 2001 - 2003)

Karel Vepřek became a prominent figure on the folk scene in the second half of the 1980s. In his own distinctive lyrics and musical poetry, he touches on the most intimate themes of life and faith, yet he is no stranger to irony or the boisterous merriment of the “poetic pub”. The Indies Scope label is thus continuing a format that proved successful when mapping the work of Oldřich Janota and later Jakub Noha.
