Victory of the eagle

Historical adventure novel by Siman Scarrow from the Cato series

Entering British soil in 43 AD, Centurion Macro realises that he has one of the most difficult campaigns of his military career ahead of him, filled with many battles. In a series of bloody skirmishes, Macro, his young subordinate Cato and the Roman army must find and destroy the enemy before he can gather enough forces to stomp the Imperial legions into the ground. Macro and Cato, however, do not have to face only the British. There is a treacherous group working at the rear of the invasion force, trying to undermine the power of the Emperor. When the two men find out that he's even plotting an assassination, coinciding with the Emperor's arrival on British soil, ...he'll realize.., that he is up against a far more insidious and ruthless enemy, than they are barbarians, they face on the battlefield. They have to act fast - they are running out of time.

Simon Scarrow

Simon Scarrow (1962) was born in Nigeria. On his return to Britain he studied history at the University of East Anglia and then taught at City College Norwich. He specialised in Roman history and organised tours of Roman monuments and museums for his students, during which he deepened his knowledge. Eventually he decided to put all this knowledge to good use and start writing the kind of books he would like to read himself - thrilling military stories from the period of the Roman invasion of Britain. He is best known for the Eagle series, a Roman military fiction set in the Roman Empire, which covers the second invasion of Britain and the subsequent long campaign of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. To date, there are eleven books. He became famous for a series of novels whose protagonists are two Roman soldiers, the experienced warrior Lucius Cornelius Macro and his deputy, the promising young recruit Quintus Licinius Cato, who fight under the sign of the eagle. In addition, he is now working on a new series, "Revolution", set in the Napoleonic and Wellingtonian periods. He eventually gave up his teaching career and writing became his main job. He is married with two sons and lives in Norfolk.
