Vltava: Spass muss immer sein - CD

Spass muss immer sein proclaims the title of the just released album by the music group Vltava. The band of singer, guitarist and actor Robert Nebrensky releases a new album after six years. The seventh studio effort and its ability to entertain is not hindered by the presence of more serious themes.
"The album - despite a certain fun - also offers depth to potential buyers. You will find songs inspired by childhood, childhood memories, love, songs inspired by fatherhood and also sonhood, if I may use that word. They all have their reflection in life, in experiences and feelings that are common to many people. There are descriptions of events from the past or the future, the songs talk to each other and pass on motifs like balls. In all cases, it is a testimony distilled into a profound joy, ” says Robert Nebřenský about the ideas of the concept recording.

Nebřenský is the author of the music and lyrics, the exception being the composition Pouto, in which he pays tribute to a poem by the Hungarian writer János Pilinszky. The arrangements of the sixteen songs were created by the whole band gradually since January 2018. The first swallow of the creative process was Zahrada. "At that time, we had no idea what adventures awaited us," Nebřenský describes the period, "but a miracle happened, which we now accept as a natural part of real creation - ideas began to fly like birds. It is as if our primordial Garden, with all its scents of strange night flowers, beckons them. Gradually a motley flock landed in it. ”

In its more than thirty-five years of existence, Vltava has managed to combine poetic lyrics and instrumental genre diversity to create a musical style that is difficult to classify other artists to.

"Why the German name? Originally, it was only part of the text Tati, haló!, in which Slovak, German and Hungarian appear in addition to Czech. The song is thus an unwitting reminder of our monarchical roots and also something of the cheerful Svejk atmosphere that is still part of our world. The title Spass muss immer sein defines the space of the whole album and creates a different kind of tension to each theme, carrying with it many layers and a different and also changing relationship to each of the songs," explains Nebřenský.

The album was recorded and mixed by guitarist and producer Lukáš Martinek in the Svárov studio; he took on the music production together with Nebrensky. The visual design of Spass muss immer sein was created by graphic designer Aleš Najbrt, using photography by poet Lenka Faltejsková. The album is released by the Czech label 100PROmotion on CD, double-vinyl and digitally. Its creation was supported by fans in a crowdfunding campaign.

The formation consists of guitarist and singer Robert Nebrensky, keyboardist František Svačina, bassist Tomáš Uhlík, drummer Ondřej Pomajsl and Ondřej Klímek playing saxophone, flute and clarinet.
