Werich Jan, Voskovec Jiri: Pisnicky - CD

In the years 1994-96, Supraphon released on the Ultraphon label a seven-page set of all songs by Jiří Voskovec, Jan Werich and Jaroslav Ježek written for the pre-war avant-garde stage of the Liberated Theater. In contrast to this extensive “critical edition“, a selection of the songs we all love is now released on the centenary of the birth of both lyricists and performers - a punishment of the best and still charming.

Selected songs from the 1920s and 1930s written on period swing music were collected on a single CD. The author of most of them is Jaroslav Ježek, who wrote them for the stage performances of both comedians or their teammates. The lyrical and interpretive abilities of V + W, their intelligent humor and poetic abbreviation are unparalleled in Czech-set poetry and are among the gems of our national culture.
