Thanks to Optizorb technology, Panadol Extra tablets dissolve faster than standard paracetamol tablets and the active ingredient paracetamol is detectable in plasma after just 10 minutes after use. The combination of paracetamol and caffeine provides up to 37% enhanced pain relief. Caffeine enhances the analgesic effect of paracetamol by stimulating the central nervous system and helping to relieve fatigue. Panadol Extra contains 500 mg of paracetamol and 65 mg of caffeine.
Gentle on the stomach
Panadol Extra contains the medicinal substance paracetamol. Paracetamol is a pain reliever that has good gastrointestinal tolerability (it is gentle on the stomach). These include, for example, patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or elderly patients.
Coated tablets
Panadol Extra tablets are oval coated tablets that are easy to swallow. Optizorb technology also ensures rapid dissolution of the tablet.
Panadol Extra and dosage
Adults and adolescents aged 15 and over:
- 1-2 tablets as needed 1 to 4 times a day at least 4 hours apart
- 1 tablet is suitable for people with a body weight of 34-60 kg
- 2 tablets are suitable for people with a body weight over 60 kg
- the highest single dose is 2 tablets (1 g paracetamol)
- maximum daily dose is 8 tablets (4 g paracetamol and 0.52 g caffeine)
- for long-term use (more than 10 days), the dose in 24 hours should not exceed 5 tablets (2.5 g of paracetamol)
Teens 12-15 years
- 1 tablet as needed up to 6 times a day at least 4-6 hours apart
- the highest single dose is 1 tablet
- maximum daily dose is 6 tablets per 24 hours
Special notice
The product is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Panadol Extra contains paracetamol, do not take it at the same time as other medicines containing paracetamol. Taking higher than recommended doses can lead to a risk of severe liver damage.
Alcohol must not be consumed during treatment. Panadol Extra contains caffeine, so avoid drinking too many caffeinated drinks while taking this medication (e.g. tea, coffee or some caffeinated drinks). A high intake of caffeine can lead to difficulty sleeping, tremors and chest discomfort (caused by a rapid heartbeat).
In case of pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in the belief that you might be pregnant, or you're planning to get pregnant, check with your doctor or pharmacist first, before taking this medicine. Due to its caffeine content, the product is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
