Depending on their voltage and connector plug, power cords can be used to charge phones, tablets, and laptops. These are not only chargers; power cables also supply power to computer power supply components and they include all kinds of adapters and extenders.

Voltage, Wattage, and Amperage

When purchasing a new laptop charger, you have to comply with a number of parameters. If you use a cable with the wrong voltage, you risk seriously damaging the device. Too low a current will slow down charging and wrong wattage may, once again, damage the device. Do you have more than one value on the label? Get a stronger adapter to charge your laptop faster.

• Voltage (V) - must be the same as the voltage indicated on the laptop. The most common value is 230V.
• Amperage (A) - determines the charging speed, but the value should still be within the range indicated on the laptop parameter label.
• Wattage (W) - this is a multiple of the output voltage and output amperage of the adapter. The wattage should ideally be the same as in the original adapter.

If you need to buy a new laptop charger, of course, it’s best to look for original accessories first. The manufacturer usually uses the same charger cable connector for all its devices, so the only thing you have to worry about is the voltage. You will usually find the required value both on the old charger and on the bottom of the laptop or in its technical specifications.

Phone and Tablet Chargers

Since phones and tablets require significantly less voltage, there is no need for the manufacturer to develop special chargers. Today, each phone is equipped with either a USB or Lightning connector, which in addition to data transfer also delivers power.

Power Cords for PC PSUs

Your computer needs its PSU to function properly. Any failure of this component may result in damage to other components or loss of stored data. It is therefore recommended that you don’t penny-pinch when choosing the PSU or the power cord, because they are really quite crucial. A good cable should be long enough, flexible, and completely insulated.
