Powerline adaptéry bývající klasicky 2 a slouží k rozšíření kabelové ethernetové sítě pomocí stávajících elektrických rozvodů a oba se zapojují do zásuvky. Extender je většinou pouze 1 a slouží k rozšíření bezdrátové Wi-Fi sítě.
