I have normal skin, which usually doesn't need any intensive hydration. Only occasionally, especially in winter, do I try to pay a bit more attention to hydrating it.
Originally, I used the classic CeraVe moisturising cream, but its texture was too thick for me and it felt uncomfortably heavy on my face. I therefore decided to try this lotion in the hope that it would be significantly lighter and more pleasant. Unfortunately, my expectations weren't quite met.
Yes, the consistency is slightly lighter than the cream, but after application, I still feel as though I have some sort of mask on my face. Admittedly, my skin is well hydrated and I can't fault the actual effect, but I personally prefer products that absorb so well that I don't even know they're there.
I also looked at the ingredients, and I must admit they are really impressive. The combination of hydrating agents, ceramides, cholesterol and emollient ingredients makes a lot of sense, especially for dry skin with a compromised skin barrier. On the other hand, it also contains a fairly rich lipid component, including shea butter and isopropyl palmitate, which explains why it feels so heavy on my normal skin. For someone with dry skin, however, this might be a huge advantage.
As for the price, I consider it reasonable. In general, CeraVe has quite affordable products by dermocosmetics standards, and here you really get a well-thought-out formula for your money. Of course, there are cheaper moisturising lotions, but not all of them offer such a comprehensive combination of barrier-supporting ingredients. So I certainly don't feel like I'm just paying for the brand.
I am a bit disappointed by the packaging size, though. Whilst I could buy the original cream in a small tub, here I had to go straight for nearly half a litre of product. Given how little moisturiser I actually go through, I worry that I won't manage to use a large part of it before its expiry date.
Overall, I'd rate the product as high-quality, but not suited to my personal preferences. I probably won't buy it again. Next time, I'd rather try something substantially lighter, ideally a hydrating toner or serum that absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a noticeable film on the skin.
However, I would happily recommend it for dry to very dry skin. I think that's where its formula will show its greatest benefits.
Very good hydrating and protective formula with glycerin, 5% Hydro-Urea complex, three ceramides, hyaluronic acid and shea butter. Fragrance-free, does not irritate the skin. Good value for money considering the ingredients within dermocosmetics.
Too dense and heavy a texture for normal skin, which leaves a greasy film on the face. Only slightly lighter than the classic CeraVe moisturising cream. For occasional use, the pack size is unnecessarily large, and I might not manage to use it up before the expiry date.
