A truly baffling collection of bad design choices. What a shame.
Good sound quality, but.
Every time you switch it on or off, there's a voice announcement which is quite loud.
If the speakers don't detect any sound to play for ~2 seconds, they automatically switch to standby mode, from which they wake up with a latency of about half a second. In practice, this makes it seem as if the sound is periodically cutting out.
The bass is over the top and unpleasant. You can save it a little with the bass knob, but
The knobs change the sound digitally (not analogue), and the speakers don't remember their settings after being turned off.
The knobs don't turn smoothly/freely, but click through set levels.

Unfortunately, these speakers have an annoying automatic sleep function after a certain period of inactivity – the same one customers describe for the Genius SP-HF1812BT model. (End of paragraph.) The wood-effect foil wrap on the speaker cabinets isn't perfectly applied, and on close inspection, you can see spots where the MDF shows through. This is probably the price you pay for the rounded corners. It's hard to say how long it will be before the foil starts to peel, but it's bound to happen eventually. It largely depends on how often you handle the speakers and whether you get them wet when dusting. (End of paragraph.) Alza has outdated pictures here. The plastic 'tray' on the side of the active speaker where the knobs are located is actually rectangular, and it makes the speaker look better.
