The spade is solid, when tightened as it should, it holds very firmly. I bought one for my car instead of a sturdy field spade. Unfortunately, when this one is folded to make it stackable, there are a lot of parts left that have nowhere to go. So the purchase was actually unnecessary. I go fishing, I drive around in my car all the time.
