I'd like to start by saying that I'm a big fan of Earthsea and I've read all of it. I therefore felt obliged to finish it, out of a certain obligatory respect for the author, but it was difficult. Pratchett's last few books have suffered from over-powered characters, and here he's gone all out. There's basically not a single issue that develops in the entire book, because literally everyone is nipped in the bud by either Elannius, or von Rosret, or the "sharp boys" of Jindra King. The main characters go from win to win and nothing interesting actually happens. There is one moment in the entire book where the problem is not solved in a completely straightforward way. A special pet peeve - Vetinari has gone green. The former genius mastermind can only manage to threaten Resret that if he doesn't fix things, he'll have him executed. For the fan, a farewell to a franchise that has been with us for much of our lives. If you haven't read anything else by Pratchett, definitely don't start with this, it's the weakest part.
