Bought 4 of these. 2 were delivered in a non-working condition, had to return and replace with another option. Another one failed after 1.5 years of usage and needs to be replaced now. So out of 4 HDDs from the initial order only 1 is working after 18 months of usage.

The drive was delivered wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap and also in a box, so my fears about the drive arriving battered in just a bag were unfounded. A full format didn't reveal any bad sectors or other issues in the SMART report. I will be using the drive 24/7 in a NAS, so I appreciate that it's practically silent; you can hear the read heads a little during read/write operations, but the drive is really quiet. Hopefully, it will last.

After 3 years of use, the head parking became quite loud, sometimes continuously. I wouldn't put it in a NAS, maybe in a PC for data storage. In any case, in 2026 I switched to the PRO version and there's just no comparison. You have to understand that with drives, it's a bit hit and miss. The statistical return rate for Seagate drives is at a very good level. However, even for a standalone drive in a PC case, I'd always rather recommend the more expensive IronWolf PRO version for peace of mind.

So far (after a week), it’s living up to expectations and doing what it’s supposed to. Only time will tell whether it will last (its 2016 predecessor was phased out after nine years). I wanted a hard drive the same size as the previous one, and I wanted the same speed as well. If it proves to be any good, I’ll buy another one just like it in due course.
