Out of curiosity, I bought this emergency ‘generator’. Given how large the solar panel is, the fact that it’s merely a cosmetic feature is something I’ve come to expect from this category of products.In reality, it’s actually more practical to charge it using a mobile phone charger than with that mini-panel or a hand-crank generator (who knows how long it would take to charge that massive battery that way). A nice bonus is the ability to play tracks from memory cards or USB sticks. Although it’s supposed to support up to 128GB, in practice it’s only really useful for a few albums, as there’s no option to select folders – you have to navigate through them using the up or down buttons. The product is heavier, lower and larger both at the sides and at the back, so it is stable and does not tip over. The strap is a right nightmare and I’ll probably take it off soon – it’s a real nuisance once it’s in place. The charging ports, outputs and microSD card slot are covered by a rubber cap, which can be a bit of a faff to snap back into place
The sound isn’t exactly impressive; the volume is adequate, but you can connect headphones to plug it into speakers, for example. The output is stereo.
This product, which I’ve got my hands on, supports the Automatic Safety Alert (ASA) function. At the address "https://asa. Enter your address into "radio" and enter the two-digit code generated into the radio – you should then start receiving targeted messages for your area – apparently this is also being rolled out in the Czech Republic (the code generation for addresses in the Czech Republic works). The reading light at the base of the solar panel is ideal for providing ‘soft’ lighting inside the tent; the head torch is adequate for outdoor use, but the strap spoils it – it would be better if it were worn over the shoulder.
