The Stylies Alpha air purifier broke down after just six weeks due to a motor fault. The device has serious design faults: If the humidifier is positioned directly above the fan, there is a risk of water leaking into the motor, and dust can enter through the uncovered top vent, which is then blown back into the room unfiltered when the unit is switched on. What’s more, you don’t even need this unnecessary humidifying function. We returned the product and replaced it with a Philips model, which is much quieter even at full power and is completely silent in sleep mode.
Exactly six weeks after light use, the motor stopped working and we had to return the product.
The water evaporator (humidifier) is positioned directly above the fan, which makes it all too easy for water to spill into the fan and the motor when you’re topping up the water. In fact, humidifying the air in a room is so easy that it’s actually a minor feature on an air purifier.
Blowing air upwards seems like a good idea until you stop to think about it and realise it isn’t at all, because when it’s switched off, dust falls into it from above, which is then blown unfiltered into the room when you switch it on.
We had to return the product, and having learnt from this experience, we bought a Philips, which is much quieter even at maximum power and can’t be heard at all in sleep mode.
