It's a useful tool that speeds up work / data transfer, but it's another solution that will only last for about ten years before the powers that be invent another "innovation" (new! / új / neu / new!) as part of driving the slaves, which the slaves will be forced to buy, because otherwise nothing would work together for them, and therefore they'll have to earn the money for it = work. Not just for this, of course.
This SATA to USB converter works for me with 3.5" Seagate drives of 16, 8, 4 and 1TB, with a 1TB WD, and other smaller 2.5" and 3.5" drives from various brands and manufacturers. Even with an old 200GB Samsung.
* It doesn't have any obnoxiously bright indicator light (diode). Just a small, blue, discreet one that's barely visible.
* The data transfer cable from the converter to the computer's USB is properly thick, so the transfer should be fast. And it is.
* The cable from the power adapter to the converter is a reasonable length – about 1.2m, so the disk can sit on a desk or a shelf, and not somewhere on the floor.
* You plug it in, and it works. Even on a computer from 2011. You don't have to install anything.
* It takes up one mains socket in the wall, because 3.5" drives don't work without a power supply – the power provided by the computer's USB port isn't enough to run them. The power supply output (for the converter/drive) is 12V AC, 2A, 24W.
* It's just another piece of junk for the house, another product consumed by a consumer society, more money spent, and another distraction for people with unnecessary things.
