What's the Game About?
In The Woodland Trial, you take on the role of one of the adventurers who venture into the Ancient Forest to pass the Woodland Trial and earn the title of Guardian of Green Valley. You will wander through groves, ruins, shops, and watchtowers, collecting equipment, gaining new abilities, and meeting the wondrous inhabitants of the forest. Each deed you perform expands your personal story while shifting your character's morality towards good or evil. It's not just about scoring points, but also about the kind of adventurer you create during the game.
Every Decision Changes the Forest
Deed and Encounter cards play a major role, allowing you to develop various specialisations. You can focus on trade, exploration, combat, or moral decisions that influence the rest of the game. Some locations can be restored, while others can be ravaged, changing the available actions and options for other players. Each game of The Woodland Trial thus creates a slightly different Ancient Forest with different opportunities. The backpack and equipment management is also very interesting—the more items you carry, the more restricted your movement on the map becomes.
Venture into the Unknown
An important part of The Woodland Trial are the quests into dangerous areas off the main map. The Forgotten Swamps, Frosty Peak, or Dark Caves function as separate adventures with their own rules, cards, and rewards. During these, you will battle enemies, search for artefacts, and decide whether to press on for greater glory or to retreat. The quests bring suspense and a sense of a true journey into the unknown, complementing the calmer part of the game that takes place in the forest itself.
Objective of the Game
Create your own story full of brave deeds—and prove you are the greatest hero of the Ancient Forest... or its greatest villain. The goal for every adventurer is to gain as many glory points as possible—for deeds performed, quests completed, and items and artefacts collected. At the end of The Woodland Trial, the player with the most points wins and earns the honorary title of Guardian of Green Valley.
Who is the Game for?
The Woodland Trial will be enjoyed by players who love atmospheric fantasy worlds, character development, and gradually building their own playstyle. Thanks to its accessible rules and strong theme, it will also find its place among families with older children or groups of more casual players. Furthermore, each game brings different combinations of deeds, quests, and decisions, so the game offers high replayability.
