TP-Link EAP683 UR, Omada

TP-Link EAP683 UR, Omada
The TP-Link EAP683 UR with Omada is a dual-band WiFi access point designed for deployment in high-density wireless environments such as offices, schools, and hotels. It uses the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard and achieves a total transfer speed of up to 5952Mbps. This WiFi 6 Access Point efficiently manages data flows for many devices at once thanks to OFDMA and MU-MIMO technologies. To eliminate bottlenecks in the network infrastructure, it includes a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port, which fully utilises the potential of high-speed wireless connectivity. Full integration into the Omada SDN platform provides centralised cloud management, which simplifies the configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the entire network from a single interface. Support for Omada Mesh and seamless roaming technologies also creates a unified and stable network with smooth client transitions between individual points without any connection dropouts.
Key features of the TP-Link EAP683 UR, Omada WiFi access point
- OFDMA and MU-MIMO technologies increase efficiency when serving multiple devices
- Omada Mesh function for wireless network expansion
- Seamless roaming ensures a smooth transition between access points
- Signal coverage reaches an area of 185m²
- The device has one 2.5Gbps RJ-45 Ethernet port
- The main operating mode is Access Point
- Network security includes the modern WPA3 standard and a guest network
- Centralised management via the Omada SDN platform with a mobile app
Performance of the TP-Link WiFi access point
The access point operates on two frequency bands of the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard and maintains backward compatibility with older 802.11a/ac standards. The total wireless speed of 5952Mbps is divided into 4804Mbps on the 5GHz band and 1148Mbps on the 2.4GHz band. For efficient operation in high-density device environments, it uses OFDMA and 4×4 MU-MIMO technologies, which optimise simultaneous communication with multiple clients and reduce latency by dividing channels into smaller sub-channels. A set of four internal antennas handles signal propagation.
Intelligent network with Omada Mesh and roaming
The device supports Omada Mesh technology, which wirelessly connects multiple access points to create a unified network with extended range. This feature is practical in areas where it's not possible to install data cables to every point, and it uses self-healing algorithms to automatically reroute data in case one of the nodes fails. The seamless roaming feature, based on the 802.11k/v standards, actively switches connected clients between access points with a stronger signal. This transition ensures smooth data transfer during video calls or content streaming as the user moves around the covered area of up to 185m².
Centralised management with the Omada SDN platform
The ceiling WiFi Access Point fully integrates into the Omada SDN (Software Defined Networking) platform, which offers comprehensive network management tools. Centralised cloud management simplifies the configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the entire network from a single location via a web interface or the Omada mobile app. Administrators can use various types of controllers—hardware (OC200/OC300), software on their own server, or a pure cloud-based approach. The platform supports Zero-Touch Provisioning for easily adding new devices to the network without needing manual on-site configuration. A clear dashboard displays network status and real-time traffic statistics.
Security and power for the TP-Link EAP683 UR with Omada WiFi access point
To protect the wireless network, the access point integrates modern WPA3, WPA2, and WPA2-Enterprise encryption standards. Administrators can create up to 16 separate SSIDs, separating corporate traffic from the guest network (Guest Zone) using a Captive Portal, which supports various authentication methods (SMS, Voucher, Facebook). Setting up access control rules (Access Control) and RADIUS server authentication (802.1X) increases the level of security in corporate networks. The device offers flexible power options and is powered either via PoE+ (Power over Ethernet, 802.3at standard) through an Ethernet cable, or with a separate 12V DC adapter. Neither the adapter nor the PoE injector are included in the package. To fully utilise its speed, a key feature is the 2.5Gbps Ethernet port. This eliminates the potential bottleneck between the wireless and wired parts of the network, which is beneficial when connecting to multi-gigabit switches or internet lines.
