Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) is an adaptogenic plant used not only in Ayurveda for cognitive support. It grows in Asia, especially in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Vietnam in humid tropical environments. Since the time of the origin of Ayurveda, Brahmi has been used to aid concentration, memory, and anxiety. It is thus an excellent nootropic. The properties of Brahmi are attributed to the presence of saponins such as bacosides A and B, and other active constituents such as D-mannitol, betulinic acid, alkaloids and stigmasterols. The properties of these substances are related to the density of neurotransmitters and the activity of acetylcholine.
