Vitamin B3 Niacin is also called niacin amide, nicotinic acid, nicotinic acid amide, vitamin B3. There is virtually no niacin in the milk and its deficiency is therefore quite common in infants and often causes them severe bleeding (diarrhea), which can normally be stopped within one day by administering a 100 mg tablet of niacin added directly to the infant bottle. The first signs of niacin deficiency in humans are psychological timidity, anxiety, suspicion, and mental confusion. They are excessively angry and moody, fickle, forgetful and unsociable.
