How does the polarizing FILTER work? Light propagates in space in waves that oscillate in all directions of the optical environment. If it bounces off a shiny non-metallic surface (glass, snow, water surface, etc. ), the light becomes polarized, that is, its waves move only in two planes: horizontal and vertical. Vertically polarized light is very useful for our eyes. It allows you to see in contrast and colour, while horizontally polarised light creates unpleasant glare and optical noise. It is to counteract this negative effect of horizontal polarization that polarizing filters and polarizing glasses are used.
