Alza partners with the global payments platform Adyen

Alza management decided to change the payment gateway provider mainly due to the growing popularity of online payments with customers, which currently account for over 50% of all e-shop transactions. The aim was to find a new partner who will respond more flexibly and quickly to this development, along with the company’s growth and its foreign expansion. Another reason was the need to unify providers for terminals and online payments across all countries where Alza operates.

“Due to the complexity in our business, we had very high demands of the new provider. We were looking for a system that would bring us a sufficiently high conversion rate and reduced administrative load, while allowing us to work with it in a sophisticated way and adapt it to our needs. We therefore approached 9 providers both from the Czech Republic and abroad,” explains Alza.cz CFO Jiří Ponrt and adds, “Our main requirement was omnichannel, i.e. a common system for point-of-sale and online transactions, plus high-quality risk and anti-fraud protection, detailed reporting etc. For an e-shop of our size, we need a partner to help us optimise the data flow and respond flexibly to changes - Adyen meets all that.”

Adyen is one of the leading global payments providers and its system is used by companies such as Facebook, Uber, Spotify and many others. For Adyen, Alza will be the first Central European e-shop with which the company has established such a universal cooperation:

„We are thrilled that Alza has chosen to partner with Adyen for both their online and in-store business“, said Roelant Prins, CCO of Adyen. „Alza is large player in electronics retail and an innovative tech-first company at heart. We’re proud to help them create unified shopping experiences their customers will love, and centralize their approach to customer data and payment strategies, removing complexity from their operational processes.”

Along with the implementation of the new provider, Alza had to make adjustments to comply with legislative changes and take into account the new European PSD2 directive, which came into effect on September 14, 2019. All the newly set-up systems are now ready to support the stricter 2-step verification, required by the upcoming 3D Secure 2 technology.
