The Victron Energy Smart BatteryProtect BP-100 disconnects the battery from non-essential loads before it is completely discharged (which would destroy it) or while it still has enough capacity to start the engine. The Smart BatteryProtect can be set to any desired level via the Bluetooth interface. One of nine preset on/off levels can also be selected using the programming pin. In the event of a power surge that could damage sensitive devices, the devices are disconnected if the DC voltage exceeds 16V or 32V.

The alarm output of the Victron Energy Smart BatteryProtect BP-100 is activated if the battery voltage drops below the set value for more than 12 seconds. Starting the engine will therefore not activate the alarm. The alarm output is an open-collector output to the negative bus, max. current 50mA. The alarm output is typically connected to a buzzer or light signal. The load is disconnected 90 seconds after the alarm has been triggered. If the battery voltage rises to the "connection threshold" level during this time (e.g. while starting the engine), the load will not be disconnected.
