Resveratrol in wine: A beneficial substance, but in unsustainable quantities

Resveratrol is a natural antioxidant that can also be found in red wine, where it occurs in concentrations of approximately 1-5 mg per litre, depending on the variety and the production process. The recommended amount of resveratrol for potential health benefits is often given in the range of 100-500 mg per day. If we consider an average of 2.5 mg of resveratrol per litre of wine, we would need to drink between 40 and 200 litres of red wine per day to get 100-500 mg of resveratrol. This amount is unrealistic and especially dangerous because of the alcohol content!
