The core element of the camera is the new HD CMOS Pro sensor type 1/2.84 with a 2.91 Mpx resolution. The camera is also equipped with an infrared emitter built into the handle, so you can easily shoot even at night.

The camera’s wide-angle 20x optical zoom lens provides a great focal length range from 26.8 to 576 mm. A five-axis intelligent optical image stabiliser with dynamic mode ensures that your photos are always sharp and smooth. The lens features an eight blade iris for an impressive out of focus effect.

The Canon XA30 introduces a number of new functions that save you time and efforts normally spent on post-production. First, there is its wide dynamic range and Highlight Priority Mode. These help to achieve a bright and high-contrast picture with a wider dynamic range of 600% with full detail even in dark areas and shadows. The Highlight Priority mode helps to prevent loss of detail in high brightness areas, preserving natural tones and richer colours. This mode is ideal for scenes set under a clear sky or near reflective surfaces.

Ease of use and rich connectivity

The camera supports high-quality AVCHD (up to 28 Mb/s) and MP4 (up to 35 Mb/s) formats. You can save your videos to two SD memory cards that can be used concurrently. This allows you to create an instant back up copy or run continuous capture while switching between cards, which is great for recording long videos. The camera’s dual-band Wi-Fi provides easy connectivity, as this enables the option to control the camera remotely or use wireless transfer for files and previews. You can connect your smart phone, tablet, or a computer. Journalists will appreciate the GPS Canon GP-E2 compatibility, allowing them to mark the video with accurate information about the location where it was taken.

The Canon XA30 also includes a detachable handle with a universal microphone holder and XLR audio connectors. The handle can be easily detached when not in use.
