In principle, this hardware is just a large battery that powers all types of computers and devices that need electricity to function. The CyberPower PR3000ERTXL2U UPS features the Line interactive design approach. Off-line is seen as the most basic form when power fails, since it switches power to the UPS unit itself. The line interactive UPS enhances the simpler off-line version of power protection to guard against dangerous surges travelling along data lines.

The most important attribute is how long the UPS will function when the electricity is off. This depends on the power consumption of the connected appliances – for example, at half-load (50%), the battery backup time lasts much longer. The load of the backup source determines the operating time, which at full load (100%) is 1,7 min and at half-load, it's 7,1 min. It is therefore crucial to determine the power consumption of the connected computers, monitors and other electronics and it is a good idea to have a bit of energy extra left. The CyberPower PR3000ERTXL2U measures the apparent power as 3000, but in reality, the actual usage matches the value of 3000 W.
