How to Choose an Electric Grater

Like any appliance, an electric grater needs to be chosen according to your specific needs and requirements. To do that, you first need to learn what various details in the descriptions and specs really mean and what you should focus on.

Electric grater performance

The grater's performance is determined by its power input, which in turn determines how much electricity it consumes. For standard models, the ideal wattage should be 150W or more, while high-performance devices range from 200 to 280W. Extra powerful electric graters with an induction motor can go as high as 1100W.

A wide range of attachments

The attachments expand the electric grater functionality and ensure it can truly cover all your needs. The appliance can include 1-5 interchangeable discs of variable fineness, which allows you to prepare a wide variety of dishes.

The very fine grating disc is suitable for processing nuts or for making breadcrumbs.
The fine grating disc is ideal for making creamy salads, spreads, and other similar dishes.
The coarse shredding attachment can be used for shredding vegetables for soups, cakes, salads, etc.
The fine slicing attachment is suitable for regular slicing of fruits and vegetables, making potato chips, etc.
The corrugated cutter slicer is commonly used for decorative slicing of fruits and vegetables.

Conventional models of electric graters have one basic speed setting. Some graters also offer a turbo mode for extra fast shredding.

What other features should your electric grater have?

Feeding tube size determines whether you will be able to grate ingredients without chopping them up first. You don't need anything particularly huge — a feeding tube about 56mm in diameter will generally suffice.
Non-slip feet ensure the stability of the appliance and safe operation.
Dimensions — ideally you should choose a compact electric grater that won't take up too much space on the kitchen countertop.
