Proven Controls and Modern Features

Like most smartwatch manufacturers, Garmin favours classic buttons, and the Forerunner 645 Optic Sandstone is no exception. The reason why classic buttons are preferred is that modern touch control fails during more demanding training sessions in the rain, during winter or while swimming. It is also worth mentioning that the integrated barometric altimeter can accurately measure not only altitude, but also the rate of climbing. 

What makes clever smartwatches special, are the multi-sport functions. The Forerunner 645 offers individual profiles for field sports, treadmill training, cycling, swimming, fitness, skiing, exercise and a host of other sports. The watches are also equipped with WiFi, Bluetooth, ANT+ and NFC. You can dive with them without fear since it can handle water pressure up to a depth of 50 metres. This is not the most advanced Garmin model, so it is important to note that it cannot measure heartbeat when swimming, it does not have a special outdoor swimming function, it cannot trace exercise while golfing and it cannot be connected to cycling power meters.
