The oyster mushroom is a popular mushroom known for its characteristic appearance and taste. Oyster mushrooms have been popular and widely used for thousands of years in China due to their high content of Beta-glucans. It grows naturally on wood, often on tree stumps and trunks. The cold process helps to preserve the bioactive properties of beta glucans because there is no thermal damage to the molecules. The gentle extraction process ensures high purity of the final product, which is important for its quality and effectiveness. Cold-extracted beta glucans retain their solubility and stability. Beta glucans are natural polysaccharides composed of glucose molecules. They are one of the main structural components of the cell walls of fungi, cereals, yeasts and some bacteria. Beta glucans differ in their molecular structure, which affects their biological properties and use in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Why did we replace ISO 22000:2018 certification with IFS Food?

The entire production process is certified according to IFS Food. IFS Food is a globally recognized certification for the safety and quality of food products designed for quality audits of production processes and products. A single internationally recognised food standard helps to ensure consistent safety and the highest possible quality of food worldwide. The German (HDE), French (FCD) and Italian (ANCC, ANCD) retail associations in cooperation with the manufacturers participated in the development of the IFS standards.

What does IFS certification say?

  • About the high quality of the raw materials used
  • About the high standard of raw material storage
  • Maximum quality of the entire production process
  • Increases product and brand credibility globally

The process of growing oyster mushrooms

The mushroom is valued not only for its culinary properties, but also for its nutritional and bioactive content, including beta glucans. Oyster mushrooms are grown on cellulose-rich substrates such as wood chips or straw. The cultivation process is controlled to ensure the high quality and purity of the mushrooms. After harvesting, the oyster mushroom is dried at low temperatures to reduce the water content and preserve the bioactive components, facilitating the subsequent extraction of beta glucans. Heat breaks down beta glucans. The dried mushrooms are ground into a fine powder, which is then subjected to an extraction process. Usually, aqueous or ethanol extraction methods are used to isolate beta glucans from fungal cell walls. The extract is then filtered and concentrated to obtain pure beta glucan. Pure beta glucan is dried by spray drying or freeze drying, which provides a stable and easy to use powder.

Oyster mushroom extract 20~30% 1~3' beta-Glucan(UV)

This part of the description indicates that the product is extracted from the oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus), a mushroom known for its high content of bioactive compounds, including beta glucans.

  • 20~30% - this number indicates the concentration of beta glucans in the extract. Specifically, this means that the extract contains between 20 and 30 percent beta glucans. This range provides information on the potential amount of bioactive component in a given extract.
  • 1~3' beta-Glucan - Beta glucans are polysaccharides that consist of glucose molecules. The designation "1~3'" refers to the type of glycosidic linkage between the glucose units. In this case, it means that the glucose molecules are linked by bonds between the first and third carbons. This specific structure is key to the bioactive properties of beta glucans.
  • (UV) - refers to a high quality extract of oyster mushroom with a defined concentration of beta glucans, analysed by UV spectrophotometry. Specifically, this means that the concentration of beta glucans was determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry (UV spectrophotometry). This analytical technique uses UV light to measure the absorbance of substances and is commonly used for the quantitative analysis of bioactive compounds.
