Potassium iodide (KI) is a chemical compound containing iodine and potassium. Potassium iodide is often used as a source of iodine in dietary supplements. Iodine contributes to many processes, in particular the normal production of thyroid hormones, normal thyroid function, the maintenance of normal skin condition and normal energy metabolism. Potassium iodide is produced by reacting iodine with potassium hydroxide or potassium carbonate. This reaction leads to the formation of potassium iodide. After the reaction, the resulting potassium iodide solution is purified and subsequently crystallized to obtain a pure form of the compound. Potassium iodide provides a stable and highly absorbable source of iodine. Potassium iodide is a stable source of iodine. Used in dietary supplements, its properties make it suitable for preventing iodine deficiency and supporting normal thyroid function.
