Splitting - hand-held axes for splitting small logs and chopping chips; may have a long or short handle. The smaller ones are also suitable for camping.
Splitting mauls - have broad wedge-shaped blade suitable for chopping large logs and cutting off branches. Their dull edges make them easier to pull out of the wood block. Suitable for preparation of large amounts of wood.

What you should know before working with an axe
Clean and maybe sharpen your axe after you finish your work.
